Bags That Take Centre Stage

When your bag is more than an accessory

There are your usual suspects and then there are these standout bags to show off at your next do. Styles that not only separate you from the herd but present themselves as works of art.

Rabanne

When Paco Rabanne launched his eponymous label in 1966, he wanted to challenge traditional ideas of how clothes and accessories should be made. Out came signature chainmail and metallic finishes that remain symbolic of the brand’s outlier status in mainstream fashion today. It’s why a Rabanne bag is distinctively unique and identifiable, even if there’s no logo on it. It’s also why it remains one of the most iconic party bag brands to have in your closet.

Fact: The classic 1969 bag is composed of 367 hand-assembled metal pastilles.

L’alingi

Alia Zaki Ali didn’t care for traditional silhouettes and market trends when she launched L’alingi. She wanted to challenge the status quo of accessories and create works of art one could carry around. It’s why L’alingi’s entire portfolio of bags are bold statement pieces, particularly the Eternity clutch that’s adorned with a constellation of faceted crystals.

Fact: The Eternity Clutch, introduced in 2019, was inspired by the founder’s own engagement ring.

Cult Gaia

Founded by Jasmin Larian Hekmat, Cult Gaia draws inspiration from nature, art, and architecture, creating accessories that often feel closer to objet d’arts than traditional handbags. Think fruits and flowers reinterpreted as clutches or pebbles on shoulder bags. But the pièce de resistance for a night out remains the Fico Wristlet that begs to be seen.

Fact: Cult Gaia began in 2012 with handmade flower crowns and turbans before expanding into handbags, ready-to-wear and accessories.
